I Can't believe I didn't include this in my last post

Some more thoughts regarding this issue:

From the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, Luke 16:29-31:
29 "Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.'
30 "And he said, 'No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.'
31 "But he said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.' "

It's not about evidence. It's about being willing to listen to the word of God, or not.

Comments:
Amen!

1 Corinthians 1.18 For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written,

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,
and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.”

20 Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. 22 For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

Of course, we Christians have held for a couple of millennia that creation is a testament of God. Indeed, it is a question of whether one is willing to listen, or whether one can shout down God's creation when it speaks.

Thanks for reading, Ed. But it's not creation speaking. No rocks have ever stood up and said, Hi, I'm millions of years old.

It's some individual's understanding of creation. And when that's contradicting the plain message of Scripture, I'll take the word of God over the word of man any day.

No rock has "stood up" to state its case -- but the rocks speak all the same. They have clocks set in them when they are molten -- God's clocks, if you wish -- and those clocks count out the age of the rock.

I have no reason to distrust the rocks God made, nor the atoms God made the rocks from. When given a choice between wisdom written personally by God and an interpretation of incomplete scripture, I'll stick with God's work every time. He's never lied.

Ed,
You're assuming you've read the clocks correctly. I am not disagreeing with God's revelation in nature. I'm contesting man's frequently flawed understanding of that revelation.

But never mind- I see from your post that you don't really trust the Bible, and thus you and I are coming from entirely different points of view on this. My post here, and the one it refers to, are really addressed to Bible-believing Christians. You don't trust the Bible, so naturally you have to fall back on the wisdom of man, it being all you really have left to trust.

Willing to hear? Coming from the Lutheran side I was taught that we are drafted, not recruited, into GOD's army. There are no volunteers. Belief is fashioned by Him, we have no power in us to believe. I would say this has perplexed me. Why do some believe and others disregard? The world around me fascinates me and speaks of GOD. The Bible has shown itself to be the Word of GOD. Christ has proven Himself to be Messiah. So why is it so difficult for some of my friends to grasp belief? And Ed, worship the Creator not the creation.
